2015 Malbec

The nose of this Virginia Malbec offers aromas of black cherry and crushed berries accented by vanilla, violets, pepper, and toast. The wine is smooth, plush, and full-bodied, with elegant structure and poise.

Malbec is such an exciting varietal! It's existed in one form or another for well over a thousand years, traveling first from Hungary to France, and then from France to Argentina and then to winemaking regions across the world, including here in Virginia, where it's delightfully suited to our climate.

That first sip of Malbec is like biting into a plump juicy blackberry or plum. Even the vibrant magenta color of this wine evokes the succulent fruit of late summer, and as we move into spicier foods this fall, it's a perfect pairing wine for all kinds of culinary treats.

Try it with a bleu-cheese burger topped with mushrooms and a little cumin.

Cost: $ 28.00

Rich kirsch, red cherry and lavender aromas are intense on the nose. The palate offers similar notes, with a juicy cranberry flavor that brightens up the astringent tannins. The finish is alive in lingering berry flavors.

Malbec Wine Information

Malbec is typically a medium to full-bodied, dry red wine with plenty of acidity and higher tannin and alcohol levels. Dark, inky purple color profiles and ripe fruit flavors of plums, black cherry and blackberry can give this wine a decidedly jammy character. Smoke, earth, leather, wild game, tobacco and white/black pepper along with a slew of high profile spices can make for an interesting medley of aromas and flavors, adding to layers of complexity and unique food pairing profiles.
